What is Natural Beef?

Beef that carries the "natural" label cannot contain any artificial flavors or flavorings, coloring ingredients, chemical preservatives or other synthetic ingredients. In addition, the animals must not be exposed to antibiotics or growth-enhancing hormones.

SVF Natural Beef

SVF Logo
At Spring Valley Farms, we have been in the cattle business for over 50 years and are proud to offer Natural Beef. We ensure calves are handled gently and humanely in a stress-free environment under Beef Quality Assurance best management practices. All calves are born and pasture-raised on our cattle farms in Gillis Mills and Lutts, Tennessee.

All SVF Natural Beef surpasses the USDA Natural Beef Guidelines. Our cattle do not receive any hormones, growth promoters or antibiotics. Any animal requiring therapeutic treatment with antibiotics is treated and not used for beef production. Our cattle are fed a quality diet of high protein grasses and select legume clovers. They are fed a supplement of all natural corn, soybean meal and cotton seed the last ninety days before harvest while still on natural grass and clover pasture/grazing. In our experience, this is what lends to the extraordinary flavor of our beef. Our calves are Angus or Angus/Hereford cross to promote marbling and tenderness.

USDA Choice

USDA Choice Beef
All SVF natural beef is USDA Choice quality or better. A quality grade is a composite evaluation of factors that affect palatability of meat (tenderness, juiciness, and flavor). These factors include maturity, firmness, texture, and color of lean, and the amount and distribution of marbling within the lean.

Choice beef is high quality. Choice roasts and steaks from the loin and rib will be very tender, juicy, and flavorful and are suited for dry-heat cooking. Many of the less tender cuts can also be cooked with dry heat if not overcooked. Such cuts will be most tender if braised, roasted or simmered with a small amount of liquid in a tightly covered pan.

Trust & Transparency

Only 34 percent of Americans feel the agriculture industry is transparent about food production practices according to the “Emerging Faith in Food Production” report by Sullivan Higdon & Sink FoodThink (2014). While that is an improvement over the 22% who responded the same way in 2012, we know there is a need for agriculture to build a reputation of transparency.

Our goal is 100% transparency. We want you to ask questions and understand why we raise cattle the way we do.
